UofU Donna Garff Marriot Honors Residential Community

Summary

While working with Jacoby Architects, as a part of a design-build team with Gramoll Construction and Potter Lawson, Meridian provided civil design for this 165,000 square foot monolithic housing community for the University of Utah honors students.  Site design included the demolition or abandonment of on-site utilities, including careful coordination regarding connection to TRAX, Legacy Bridge and adjacent ball fields. The existing parking area reduction was minimized a design that was fully vertical. This five story Housing Building consists of 310 student living units, dining area, student study and commons areas and a convenience store.

Meridian’s understanding of major campus utilities contributed to rerouting around the site to extend to the new building. Part of the LEED Gold design included a dry creek bed to infiltrate water from the site allowing drainage during major 10-year storm events. Grading and drainage design included underground infiltration basins.
