Summary

This new four-story 130,000 sf building is named after Ray Noorda “father of computing” and former CEO of Novell due to funding contributions from the Ray and Tye Noorda Foundation. The building is the new home for electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering, computer science, professional sales departments, and engineering technology to accommodate the rapid growth in computer science and technology programs at Weber State. Four centers are housed in the building: The Concept Center, the Center for Technology Outreach, the National Center for Automotive Science & Technology, and the Alan E. Hall Center for Sales Excellence

Meridian Engineering as part of VCBO Architecture’s a/e design team worked together to collaborate ADA accessibility, site and utility design, tunnel relocation, plaza, and outdoor seating areas, access to various levels of the building, parking and grading on a sloped site with rock and concrete walls for a business-like, tech-friendly, four-story educational facility constructed by Big-D.

Honored with a 2023 Merit Award by the Utah Masonry Council

A bit of history

The Noorda Building for Engineering, Applied Science & Technology replaces the 143,000-square-foot Technical Education Building, which was built in 1957.

“We appreciate the commitment of our legislators and donors to invest in modern education facilities as we prepare growing numbers of students in high-tech careers,” said Weber State president Brad Mortensen
