BYU College of Engineering and Technology
This rebuild of the five-story complex includes innovative learning space for the chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering and computer and electrical engineering departments. Designed by VCBO Architects and built by Jacobsen Construction as a facility that promotes faculty-student collaboration, team-based projects, cross-discipline interaction, enhances research, and promotes industry partnerships.
Meridian’s work included a programming document for the new building to fit within significant steep grades across the building site with various site walls, stair systems, and ramps. Design also included truck access to an existing dock area, relocating several existing utilities that encumbered the building site and phasing utility construction to maintain service to Campus utilities while new systems were constructed around the building site. Coordination with City officials for access from existing City Streets and for connections to new City Utilities. New water mains and new sewer were extended for tie in. Storm drains and new water detention facilities were added to the site. New Tunnel systems were also included with the project to connect the new buildings to the Central Utilities system.
