Summary

Summary: This renovation of the 30,000 square foot corporate office for Arch Nexus located at 2505 Parleys Way, Salt Lake City, was built by Jacobsen Construction and serves over 88 employees.

It is uniquely tagged as the first Living Certified Building in the Wasatch Front. A Living Building is a building that gives more than it takes, creating a positive impact on the human and interacting systems. Its sustainable impacts include energy, water and materials that are reclaimed or local.

In addition to regenerative aspects, the newly renovated office features a diverse assortment of working environments, including open workspaces, hoteling offices, focus rooms, lounge areas, design labs, state of the art tele-communications systems, community meeting spaces, courtyards, café, and a gym.

The civil site work by Meridian included grading, drainage of excess water and utility plans in accordance with engineering design. The site design includes a parking lot structure, outdoor dining plaza, electric car charging stations and drop off area. A subsurface drainage basin was designed to meet LEED standards. Close coordination with the client and Salt Lake City was needed. Storm water pollution prevention plans and construction management services were also provided.

Special Project Consideration: The building is expected to generate more energy than it consumes on an annual basis. Its sustainable systems include power generation via solar canopies. Other value-added features include on-site collection and treatment of storm water, rainwater harvesting, and gray water recycling. In addition, Nexus implemented Biophillic Design, which means the interior has Living walls with oxygen generating plants, nature inspired murals, and abundant daylight infusion. These features are statistically proven to increase occupant productivity and retention- a real bonus for this employee-owned design firm.
