An update on the FrontRunner.

By Events

UDOT and UTA held a groundbreaking for the Vineyard Commuter Rail Station and double track May 13, 2021. Vineyard, a fast-growing Utah County community, is near the east side of Utah Lake between Lindon and Orem I-15 exits. With this project now officially underway and under construction – the first expansion of the commuter rail system since the original construction of the north and south lines, it will greatly improve mobility to this area.

Meridian Engineering completed the overall base mapping for this project using all the tools in our arsenal including terrestrial LiDAR 3-D scanning, UAV flights, and finalized the project with GPS and Robotic Total Station methods. Meridian also provided an interactive GIS dashboard for the design team and prepared the Right of Way Design for negotiations and acquisition for the parcels impacted by the project. Meridian is thankful to the Lochner team for having us on this project. We look forward to more similar opportunities in the future.

Congrats to Brian Boehmer for passing his Professional Land Surveyors exam and becoming our newest licensed PLS.

By Events

Meridian’s LiDAR specialist in Terrestrial, Mobile and Aerial Laser Scanning technology, Brian Boehmer, has worked for the firm for over 5 years, serving as a Project and LiDAR Manager. In his own words, “The licensing exam is no easy feat. If you are planning on taking the exam, make sure you are ready and know your reference material.”

Meridian’s survey division manager, Michael Nadeau states, “Brian is a loyal, hardworking, career driven Surveyor. Meridian is proud to have Brian on our team and we are very excited for his future as one of Utah’s newest Professionally Licensed Surveyors.”

Recently completed – civil design record drawings and construction observation for Wollam Construction’s new office in Draper

By Completed Project

Wollam Construction, a heavy industrial contractor, outgrew its old office and is now enjoying the new two-story, 27,400 square-foot facility at 12764 Pony Express, that includes office and meeting space, training center, gym and roof deck.

As part of the a/e/c design lead by AJC Architects and constructed by Wollam Construction, Meridian provided Civil Site Design for parking areas, site access, and on-site storm water management.  In addition, Meridian provided utility design for service connections, fire and water supply, and construction period services.

Meridian survey crew travels locally to Little Cottonwood Canyon for Monument Preservation activities.

By Completed Project

One of Meridian’s survey crews spent the day in Little Cottonwood Canyon April 5th, 2021 creating monument corner records for a few monuments Salt Lake County did not have data on per Utah State Code 17-23-17.5. Meridian survey crew chief, Mo Sykes, (shown) is actually standing in the hole dug to expose a monument for GPS observation.

Crew safety was a bit tricky while working on other nearby sloped sites at this scenic location west of Alta Ski Resort. For a site like this, only certain times of the year are feasible to work.  Typical winters in Utah have too much snow and the avalanche dangers are high, requiring beacons, shovels, and probes -avalanche safety gear.  However, with this spring’s substantial warm period, the avalanche danger was reduced, and shovels and GPS equipment sufficed.  You can tell this was a fun outing for Meridian’s field crew.

Peruvian Park Elementary breaks ground in Sandy, Utah for a new rebuilt school.

By Project Progress

Now with the school’s design phase complete, Peruvian Park students jumped at the chance to participate in its groundbreaking on March 30, 2021 to mark the start of the construction of their new school. These prideful Panthers joined Canyons District administrators and local elected officials with golden shovels in their hands and commemorative hard hats on their heads to turn that dirt.

Meridian Engineering as part of the architectural engineering design team lead by NJRA Architects worked together to collaborate a beautiful, tech-friendly, two-story educational facility.

Our role began with design grade surveying, boundary analysis, amended subdivision platting. Civil design included site grading and drainage plans for two parking lots, bus and parent drop of zones, and two new play fields.  In addition, Meridian provided site utility design for all new sewer, water, and storm drain connections. With the addition of some new site walls, this school will be much easier to access. The new school will be constructed by Hogan Construction, and is slated to be complete and open by August 2022. Meanwhile, the kids will bus to the Crescent View Building for their schooling during its construction.
