DNR North East State Park projects awarded to Meridian Engineering by DFCM and DNR.

As the prime consultant to DFCM, Meridian is working with subconsultants MGB+A, SPE Architecture, Colvin Engineering and WHW to design 4 separate projects cohesively. These projects consist of Jordanelle’s Rock Cliff campground expansion and Ross Creek day use area, Rockport Reservoir’s Cedar Point new day use area, and a new campground at Deer Creek Reservoir. Total construction value is approximately $16 million.

The projects have simultaneously kicked off early July 2021 for quick design execution, with the goal of completing construction documents this fall and starting construction in December 2021 to meet legislative funding requirements. Coordination with existing utility agencies, UAS flights and conventional topography surveys for each location along with schematic design is underway.

Look forward to getting out and enjoying some of these new planned recreational areas expected to be ready for Utah recreators in the summer of 2022.

SLCC Juniper Student Center and Classroom Building in Herriman begins Construction.

This 92,000 square foot, 3-story building will be the first raised for the SLCC Herriman Campus. The building will also include a central plant comprised of boilers and chillers along with site development, parking and utilities to accommodate growth on the 90-acre development.

The Juniper Student Center and Classroom Building will bring the University of Utah and Salt Lake Community College under one roof to offer students a unique set of higher education options and opportunities. Construction was recently awarded to Big-D and slated to be complete in 2023. This building will set the tone for future institutional buildings to be placed in that area. Location is approximately 14400 South and 3500 West.

New access road to Bear Lake State Park Marina complete!

While working with Jacobs Engineering as the lead in collaboration with the Division of Natural Resources and UDOT, Meridian provided UAV flights, survey base mapping and right-of-way design to expand the marina parking at Bear Lake and relocate the entrance to the Marina.

This project will improve the safety of this intersection by increasing vehicle queue off US-89 as well as provide turn lanes into Harbor Village. This new access road is expected to resolve the traffic issues that were common in this area.

Winners at IRWA!

This year’s annual International Right of Way (IRWA) Competition announced the winners during lunch at the Education Conference, June 6-9, 2021 at the Marriot River Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The IRWA is an international organization including countries from the U.S. to Canada, England and some in Africa. It organizes the conference for professionals to stay current with best practices, latest laws and review, and the newest technology for the Right of Way industry. Attendance this year was virtual and live. Meridian’s Right of Way Manager, Tyler Baron was able to attend virtually and get us entered.

Meridian’s ROW and GIS team were happy to be involved in showcasing some great design ideas for the transportation and GIS categories. Out of the 5 plats entered, we won 3 of them. Check out these designs from our winners: Tyler Baron for Transportation, Travis Jensen for Industry General and Christopher Higham for GIS.

Weber State University Noorda Engineering and Technology Building Construction underway!

With the design phase complete, this 135,000 sf building named after Ray Noorda – “father of computing” and former CEO of Novell – is currently being constructed by Big-D. Slated to be complete in 2022, the building will be the new home for electrical, mechanical and systems engineering, computer science, professional sales departments and engineering technology. Four centers will also be housed in the building: The Concept Center, the Center for Technology Outreach, the National Center for Automotive Science & Technology and the Alan E. Hall Center for Sales Excellence.

Meridian Engineering as part of the architectural engineering design team lead by VCBO Architects worked together to collaborate ADA accessibility, site and utility design, tunnel relocation, plaza and outdoor seating areas, access to various levels of the building, grading on a sloped site with rock and concrete walls for a business-like, tech-friendly, four-story educational facility.
