During National Surveyors Week, Meridian recognizes Sean Ireland, PLS as our Construction Staking Survey Manager.

By News and Updates, Team Members

Sean shares valuable insights for aspiring surveyors interested in Construction Staking and Layout: “Witnessing the creation of new construction is extremely rewarding. Although it can be stressful work, the benefits to Utah’s communities are truly remarkable while observing the development of new infrastructure for businesses and housing. It’s crucial to recognize that these projects require a collaborative effort from a large diverse team. Never hesitate to seek guidance, ask questions, and continuously expand your knowledge.”

Meridian goes to Idaho!

By Project Progress

Recently, Meridian survey crews performed ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, retraced Public Land Survey System (PLSS) monuments, and collected base mapping data for two individual projects located in Idaho Falls and Swan Valley. Despite the chilly temperatures in the low teens, our dedicated crews braved the elements while delivering detailed field notes back to the office to be used for further boundary analysis as well as future design purposes.

We are delighted to see construction and staking completed for the new CADE Builder Services facility in the Lewis Landing Business Industrial Park, Utah.

By Completed Project, Project Progress

Meridian, a trusted partner in construction surveying recently performed the construction layout and staking of the entire site including hardscapes and utilities for the 85,000 SF concrete tilt-up building located at 2150 West Waterbury Drive, Lehi, Utah.  This building will serve CADE as an easy-load in-load out docks, truck court and warehouse space dedicated to production and distribution of cabinetry products for new residential communities.

Construction surveying is an important part of the construction process. The layout of this project included rough grade staking, curb and gutter, utilities, building and hardscape layout. Meridian provided Zwick Construction staking reports for each item staked during the project in order to provide a smooth build for the Owner. We look forward to witnessing the positive impact this facility will have on the community and the continuous growth of Lewis Landing.

Check out this unique rail monitoring project for Union Pacific in Newton, Utah

By Completed Project, Project Progress

Meridian recently performed daily track monitoring and reporting for the Jack and Bore Crossing under the Union Pacific Railroad in rural Newton, Utah. The scope for monitoring this section included coordination employing prism targets and offsite control points. These targets were affixed by mounting the targets to the side of the rail at intervals of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 feet from the crossing with a total of 22 monitoring targets and 11 on each rail for the purpose of continuous monitoring of rail activity while keeping crews safe.

Measurements were observed remotely using our 1” total station. Rail movement, if any, was recorded in the field and submitted to RailPros to provide a smooth build for the Owner. Construction activities of the track installation were performed by NW King & Sons Construction.

New SLCC Juniper Student Center and Classroom Welcomes the community with its Open House.

By Completed Project, Project Progress

The Juniper Student Center and Classroom Building brings the University of Utah and Salt Lake Community College in “one place with many possibilities” offering Herriman and surrounding city students with a unique set of higher education options without the commute across the valley to the U of U campus. The event on August 4th included supportive faculty, school mascots, and the cheer team to engage attendees with a fun time including providing information and prizes.

Live music, and several food trucks were also enjoyed. The new building is located at 14551 S. Sentinel Ridge Blvd (approximately 3500 West) consisting of 91,000 square foot, 3-story building with a central plant comprised of boilers and chillers. Constructed by Big-D and with the plan for opening its full suite of resources on August 22, 2023.

Meridian Engineering, as part of the architectural engineering design team lead by ajc architects, worked together to integrate the design with the master plan of the overall site. Beginning with base mapping surveys, our civil scope included utility master plan for the new campus, grading drainage, coordination with utility tunnel work, master storm drain management plan for entire campus, and utilities to accommodate future growth on the 90-acre development.

Design also included layout of new roadways throughout the campus, drop off areas, plazas, accessible 448 stall parking area, main entrance, roundabout connection, and external roadway access to the parking area for easy navigation. Utility extensions were tied into the design from City mains and metering, including utility stubs for future development, bioswales for water quality, and coordination for final subdivision platting including lots, dedicated roadways, and easements.
