See all the latest improvements in middle school design and construction…now in progress at Eagle Mountain Middle School

By Project Progress

Exciting progress is being made on the new Eagle Mountain Middle School, located on Belle Street. This Alpine School District project is set to serve grades 7 through 9, catering to the rapidly growing community in Utah. Our team at Meridian Engineering is proud to contribute to several key aspects of the civil design, including site development, utility installation, and traffic flow improvements.

Because of its rural fringe location, the project included design for the widening of the east side of Belle Street (9000 N.) along the school site frontage as well as the new Harmony Way access road. New improvement of curb, gutter and sidewalks for right of way for the roadway widening was coordinated with Alpine School District and the City.

Meridian Engineering worked in collaboration with the VCBO Architecture design team to provide topographic surveying, boundary analysis, subdivision plating, site grading and drainage plans for parking lots, bus and parent drop zones, site walkways, softball field, pickleball courts, track, soccer field and other playfields. In addition, Meridian provided 3 miles of site utility design for all new sewer and water lines offsite.  Retention basins for stormwater and storm drain connections were also included. We’re thrilled to see this complex project come to life and look forward to its completion by 2025, under the skilled construction of Westland Construction.

Meridian goes to Dog Valley west of Nephi, Utah

By Completed Project

Earlier this year, Meridian Engineering’s field crews conducted surveying services on School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA) parcels, retracing PLSS monuments and other deed controlling corners.

They also collected base mapping data of four contiguous parcels to identify existing property ownership for a proposed power line easement for NextEra’s Dog Valley Solar project, covering approximately 1,320 acres. In finalizing the project, our office staff led by Travis Jensen PLS, provided legal descriptions and right-of-way exhibits for the easement.

East High School Improvements are complete!

By Completed Project, Project Progress

Located at 840 South 1300 East, and home of the Leopards, East High School serves a community of over 1886 students in grades 9- 12 with a vision to foster excellence and equity.

This was a two-phase project working with Naylor Wentworth Lund Architects.

This project began with survey services by Meridian Engineering. Civil design included site plans for a new parking lot, drop off zone, site walls and an underground retention system to mitigate previous flooding of the school caused by offsite storm water. This project worked around historic school landmarks while giving the school more functionality and protection from flood waters.

While working with the Jacoby Architects design team, Meridian provided a utility survey and topographic survey for the new entrance’s site design. In addition, civil site design for the utility plan, trench drain, and the shipping/loading dock and truck access were provided. Construction period services were also included in the civil design scope.

Meridian Engineering visits Las Vegas for the Western Regional Survey Conference “Saddle up for Knowledge”

By Events

Meridian Engineering’s surveyors recently attended the Western Regional Conference March 23-26, 2024, at the Horseshoe Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada. Hosted by the Western Federation of Professional Surveyors (WFPS), a regional non-profit organization composed of Land Surveyor associations representing the 13 western states, including Alaska and Hawaii. WFPS was formed in 1979 and is dedicated to education, fostering common goals within the western states, and providing a regional voice at the national level. Meridian’s survey division leader Michael Nadeau serves as Utah’s director to WFPS furthering our commitment to professional advancement and regional representation. The conference also included the several state surveying societies including Nevada (NALS), California (CLSA), Arizona (APLS), New Mexico (NMPS) and Wyoming (PLSW).

The first day of the conference began with three separate workshop tracks followed by an Education FUNdraiser trip to the LINQ Promenade’s Brooklyn Bowl where old friends and new competed with each other for the purpose of funding surveying scholarships. Throughout the next 3 days were cutting-edge presentations tailored for the professional surveyor’s daily challenges including UAS and Drone Safe Operations, Precise Aerial Mapping, Riparian and Property Boundaries, CFedS, Ethics, Art of Retracement, LiDAR, and GIS integration. Sessions were complemented with networking opportunities including refreshment breaks, ice breaker reception, and the live scholarship auction and dinner with colleagues from far and near.
