Sean Ireland Transition to Survey Party Chief

Meridian would like to congratulate Mr. Sean Ireland!

Mr. Ireland recently transitioned from LiDAR Technician to a Survey Party Chief under the direction of our Survey Manager Mr. Michael Nadeau. Mr. Ireland has been with Meridian working on projects for Meridian’s Survey and LiDAR Departments.

Mr. Ireland was trained by the Army Corp of Engineers and recently graduated from Utah Valley University with his bachelor’s degree. His expertise with AutoCAD and MicroStation and their uses on projects such as the Salt Lake County Building, 5600 South in Roy, and many other culvert and road projects makes him a great choice. His ability to process field data is vast and is of exceptional quality. He has used his ability to process data from all over the country including Illinois, Florida and the West.

He is a joy to have around the office and is always willing to assist in any task. He is a delight with his good humor.

We wish him well as he begins this new career path in Meridian’s Survey Department. We know that he will do a great job!

Meridian Engineering wins Best of State 2018

Meridian Engineering was honored at the Best of State Gala on Thursday, May 17, 2018.

Meridian is truly honored to have been nominated for Best of State. We understand the meaning of work/life balance and takes to heart that if the employee is satisfied financially and emotionally then the productivity will increase exponentially.

Meridian knows that the meaning of work hard/play hard and developed family-friendly work policies that enable its employees to not have to worry if something comes up at home. Meridian also encourages continuing education through conferences, licenses, affiliations and college level opportunities. The small business size of Meridian allows the leadership to treat employees like family and are keenly aware of the employees as individuals.

Meridian encourages membership in Civic Organizations and service Clubs and in some circumstances, costs relating to the organization are reimbursed. Meridian’s employees are involved with the Utah Council of Land Surveyors, International Right of Way Association, National Society of Professional Surveyors, Western Federation of Professional Surveyors, American Society of Civil Engineers, and the American Council of Engineering Companies.

Meridian later this year will be moving into a new office building in South Jordan and has already begun the partnership with South Jordan City and the surrounding community. Meridian will also continue its involvement with the community of West Jordan.

Meridian is thankful to be nominated for Best of State and to conduct business in the State of Utah and its communities to expand buildings, roads, and spaces accessible for future generations of Utahns to come.

Meridian’s Survey Department Welcomes New Employee

Riley Adams

Meridian is excited to announce that Riley Adams has joined Meridian Engineering as a new Survey Crew Chief.  Riley’s expertise includes construction staking, performing topo surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys. His background includes platting and drafting, aerial photogrammetry, analyzing Point Cloud data, and site material takeoff analysis. Riley has been learning about machine guidance or machine control technology by setting up the control networks. This is an effective and efficient use of the GPS in Total Stations that guides equipment in elevations for the finishing grade.

Riley was instrumental on the current construction project with the and laying out of the utilities on the Redwood widening project. This is a project that Meridian did the survey and Right of Way. His recent projects include the Salt Lake Valley Regional Airport survey and I-15; Brigham City to Willard widening.

Riley is currently pursuing his Bachelor degree in Geomatics from Utah Valley University where he met our Survey Department Manager and Adjunct Professor, Mike Nadeau.

Riley is looking forward to getting his Professional Land Survey License. In his spare time, you’ll find him riding ATV’s and looking at classic cars.

Meridian involved in two of Utah Construction and Design’s 2017 Most Outstanding Projects

UC&D 2017 Award - Religious ProjectThe Latter-day Saint Missionary Training Center Expansion – Civil Engineering.

This project included a phased approach as the laundry facility was relocated. Randall Vickers, PE was the Civil Principal in Charge for Missionary Training Center (MTC) expansion in Provo, Utah. Work included master planning of vehicle and pedestrian access and utility extensions to new and existing facilities while leaving the majority of campus operational during new construction.  Design included:

  • Extending new utility tunnels and relocating utilities for the tunnels
  • Revisions and extension of fire lanes
  • Mini gathering plazas in various locations
  • New main building plazas, drainage systems
  • Extending all existing utilities for new buildings and an underground parking system under the new expansion

Work included coordination efforts with Brigham Young University (BYU) and Provo City Officials. New access connections to the site (during and after construction), tunnel crossings of the public street, and a new bus drop off location on the public street.  The work also included removal of existing utility systems and phasing the removal to maintain service to surrounding buildings on both the Brigham Young University and Missionary Training Center campus. The project was completed in two years and will train up to 3,700 missionaries at a time. MTC

UC&D 2017 Award - Highway ProjectMountain View Corridor-5400 South to 4100 South – Right of Way and Survey

This project was another extension of an additional north/south freeway. Tyler Baron, PLS was responsible for the right of way design and preparation of acquisition documents. His team provided oversight for supplemental survey, development of the existing property matrix, new right of way design and document preparation for all right of way takes and easements, including insuring QC/QA review is conducted in accordance with Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Standards. MVC

Welcome Sierra to the Meridian Family

Sierra Holz has joined the Meridian Engineering family as a Survey/Right-of-Way CADD technician. Sierra brings experience and education with her. She had the opportunity to work with the Bureau of Land Management finding original stone monuments. She helped locate, resurvey, and replace the stones with metal posts using GPS technology. Other experience includes work on ALTA, subdivision, and condo plats, and staking points for the placement of large tools.

Sierra loves the outdoors and the arts and satisfied both of these interests in obtaining her Bachelor degree of Geography. She is working towards her license as a Professional Land Surveyor.
